                                                    crush on her in order to make her former boyfriend jealous and try to win her back. That example is one in which one person has the manipulative power to  
                                                
                                                    "do a number" on two people.  	Painful as those memories might be of adolescent manipulation, they pale in comparison to what an adult is certain to experience in the  
                                                
                                                    working world and in dealing with all the other people with which he or she will have an "adult" relationship. Elderly parents may complain to their adult children that "you  
                                                
                                                    never call/visit." Young children regularly use the "if only . . . then" ploy with their parents. One spouse might sulk in order to get his or her way from  
                                                
                                                    the other. It is a circular and dishonest way of interacting that has become almost hard-wired into modern human behavior. All that it takes to do away with it is
