Founder Allan Borushek is a health educator and clinical dietitian who sought to counter the claims of the radical form of the low-carbohydrate diet that encouraged consumption of great amounts of meat, cheese and fats to the detriment of grains, fresh fruits and vegetables (About Us, n.d.). Aside from the immediate and long-term benefits of better nutrition, the founder states the primary value of CalorieKing: "Individuals on any diet whatsoever can use CalorieKing.com to learn how to handle everyday situations that diets simply do not address" (About Us, n.d.). This is of particular merit given the diabetes epidemic that now has emerged from chronic overweight and obesity combined with inadequate physical activity. The goal of the CalorieKing program is to lead individuals through a 13-week educational course that will change their dietary habits for the rest of their lives. 1. The philosophy behind this diet The CalorieKing program is not a fad or short-term diet intended for quick weight loss followed by abandonment (and usually regaining of lost weight as well).
