Islamic fundamentalism is making a resurgence in many diverse parts of the world. In the strictest sense, this resurgence represents a move back toward the basic premises
of Islam, to the ancient interpretations of the Koran as opposed to more modern interpretations. Fundamentalist Muslims could be described as old school Muslims, in fact. The reasons
for this renewed focus on the old beliefs can be explained in the same terms that the resurgence of any other fundamentalist religion can be explained. This resurgence occurs
in response to a variety of factors, however, factors that differ at least to a degree in the many regions of the world where fundamentalism is reappearing. The interpretation
of the resurgence also differs. Unfortunately, in too many cases it is associated with more negative aspects of world developments than positive aspects.
The resurgence of Islamic fundamentalism that is being witnessed around the world is, in part, explained by the Muslim worlds reaction to what they perceive as a dramatic world
shift in moral code. As a result, many are turning back to their traditional base to help them reconcile this shift. As is the case with most social
phenomena, the prominence of such groups is made more apparent in the contrast of the times. It can be contended, in fact, that:

that conservative basis, we have become more aware of the upswing in interest regarding conservative and fundamentalist religions.
