                                                    different takes on the work. There does in fact seem to be many themes to come from this memoir. What is the books true purpose and meaning?  	Cusack writes  
                                                
                                                    that the book is like looking " through a childs eyes at a family crippled by alcoholic havoc" (1774). The book begins by expressing the sentiment that indeed, the writers  
                                                
                                                    childhood was not happy (1774).  Cusack finds this unnerving (1774).  Born and raised in Brooklyn New York during the Great Depression, Malachy McCort meets Angela Sheehan (1774).  
                                                
                                                    Soon, Angela becomes pregnant and they marry and there is an array of things that follow inclusive of but not limited to alcohol related problems (1774). Four years after their  
                                                
                                                    marriage, there are five children, but the youngest passes away (1774).  The family moves out of the United States--it is not working for them--and returns to the homeland: Limerick,  
                                                
                                                    Ireland (1774). They live there between  1934 and 1948 but Malachy still cannot hold a job (1774). This exemplifies the notion that alcoholics try a change in venue but  
                                                
                                                    that never works. Two more children die but  Frank is only hospitalized with typhoid (1774). This is a dismal story and there is little redeeming qualities that can be
