II. TARGET BEHAVIOR Competing behavior for this program plan is the desire to stay on the sofa all day and watch soap operas in between taking naps. Target behavior is to engage in more exercise activity that will eliminate the desire to remain locked in to the competing behavior. III. SELF-MONITORING The most challenging part of any self-management program plan is the need to self-monitor ones behaviors to see any trends that exists - both good and bad - as well as to establish a correlation between target behavior and ultimate goal. One of the easiest ways to achieve this is with a written behavior recording plan that can be as simple as dividing the week into seven days on a sheet of blank paper or utilizing a more detailed form available from the Internet. The fundamental benefit of this type of behavior recording plan is to have everything in one place for easy access of progress - and setbacks - so it is immediately apparent where extra effort must be made. The level of exercise (target behavior) the student will want to achieve in this four-week program plan is proportionate to how much time she has to invest in the objective compared with her current state of health.
