to put the past behind, signs remain at nearly every juncture that there still exists a strong sense of racial dissension. There is virtually no segment of society that is not affected by racial stereotypes, which are oversimplified or mistaken attitudes, opinions or judgments. From school children to the workplace, from the entertainment industry to the sports world, racial stereotypes are an integral part of societys framework. Indeed, a perfect society would reflect an attitude of equality -- rather than one of segregation -- toward the myriad ethnicities that exist in todays world; however, as much as humanity has moved away from racism, there have been just as many issues that have stalled its continuation. Indeed, if there has been a decrease in racial discrimination over the past twenty-five years, it has been quite undetectable, particularly with the role the media continue to play. The racial bias that exists in the media -- particular in television but also clearly apparent in music, advertisements and all other entities -- is not created by the media but actually perpetuated stemming from a basis of social reality. While it is important to understand that the media did not instigate such an existence, it is primary in continuing the bias. How does one deal with racism in the media? There is no single contributory factor at which one can point a finger; rather, it is a conglomerate of facts mixed with fiction and overactive imaginations that create the stereotypical racial images portrayed in media today.
