Resolution of workplace conflicts is extremely important in order to promote a happy and healthy work environment. Conflicts do crop up from time to time and it is important to identify these problems and take care of them immediately before they escalate out of control. The help of mediators is an important tool that managers would do well in utilizing. Far too often, the emotional factor is overlooked in resolving workplace conflicts even though those emotions are often at the center of person to person conflicts. Mediators can illicit emotional responses from clients in an effort to bring understanding and empathy to the table in order to reach a solution and compromise. Emotions are far too often put to the side by mediators and participants so that a solution can be more easily and quickly reached. Ignoring the emotional factor for the sake of resolution can actually have long term detrimental effects, especially if the parties work together in a close environment, but by working on conflict transformation, mediators will be able to provide the parties with the tools and abilities to better understand the position of the other (Jameson, Bodtker, & Linker, 2010).
