Individuals choose to pursue a professional role in the medical arena for a number of diverse reasons. Obtaining the status
of a physician seems to be a particularly coveted goal. At one point or another every parent in fact dreams of their child becoming a physician or
at the very least to marrying a physician! Few individuals, however, actually have the fortitude and drive that it takes to accomplish this goal. Not only is the
coursework that is required to become a physician lengthy, it is costly and grueling. It seems that the goal of much of the coursework is simply to weed out
the chaff from the grain! The individual that sticks with their goals even in face of all of the obstacles that are thrown in their path is the exception
rather than the norm! The question might be asked then as to what makes an individual so determined to become a physician?
The answer is not always clear cut. Many seek this status purely out of financial motivation. Physicians, after all, are in most cases much better compensated than any
other professional. Others want to become a physician simply because of the societal prestige that goes along with the title. Others, however, want to become a physician because
of their desire to help others. This latter motivation is my own! I have dreamed of becoming a physician since I was very young. Many events in
