actually constitutes workplace, or white collar crime? "Crime" typically takes into account words like "coercion," "violence" or "victim" and the typical fraud scheme doesnt have the first two elements involved
(Green, 2004). "Crime" is actually a legal category, referring to conduct that involves a wrong committed against the public as a whole, in which charges are brought about, more often
than not, by the government (Green, 2004). But according to the Dictionary of Criminal Justice Data Terminology, white collar crime is considered
a "nonviolent crime for financial gain committed by means of deception by persons . . . having professional status or specialized technical skills" (White Collar Crime - A Definition). In
this situation, white collar crimes can include counterfeiting, embezzlement, forgery and fraud (White Collar Crime - A Definition). Because white collar crime isnt
as "violent" as, say, violent crime, it can be overlooked because its considered less severe or serious (Dininni, 2007). This assumption isnt true, however - for one thing, the results
of consistent white collar crime has an impact on the average citizen and consumer - it increase the costs of doing business which, in turn, are passed on to customers
