a wide range of research techniques, indicating that methodology, as long as it is sound, matters less to the editors than do precision of methods and results. The focus
is that of basic research and theory in abnormal behavior, though it seems to be focused more on cause without mention of treatment. Occasionally there will be mention of
treatment or intervention, but that mention appears to be more in conjunction with the research published than in matters regarding treatment. Publication
information within the journal states that the major focus of the journal is associated with abnormal behavior in broad terms, along with its correlates and its underlying causes. There
is a list of general topics contained within the journals major focus, and not one of them deals with the treatment of abnormal behavior. They are: * "? psychopathology-its etiology,
development, symptomatology, and course; * ? normal processes in abnormal individuals; * ? pathological or atypical features of the behavior of normal persons; * ? experimental studies, with human or animal subjects, relating
to disordered emotional behavior or pathology; * ? sociocultural effects on pathological processes, including the influence of gender and ethnicity; and * ? tests of hypotheses from psychological theories that relate
to abnormal behavior" (J Ab Psych, 1997). In these terms, the journal is most interested in research into patient populations, quasi-experimentation
(standard research method but with only one subject at a time), case studies, behavior theory, scholarly papers on deviant personality and papers on abnormal behaviors with an emotional base.
