bare as people, both scholarly and average, attempt to understand one of the most powerful times in history, especially American history. In his book "The War of American Independence" Don Higginbotham essentially seems to focus more on the military aspects, and those that can be applied to the argument that an independent America was one that spelled change for all nations. The following paper examines the contents of the book, presents a summary of Higginbothams apparent thesis, and then analyzes the work. The War of American Independence As would be expected of any book concerning the American Revolution this book begins with the colonists and their ideals and dreams, and then moves into discussions of Congress position on things, the various campaigns which began the true battles, and the tensions that existed between the civil and the military sects in the nation. He discusses military actions and plans a great deal more than perhaps he does social conditions, and this presents us with much of his focus in relationship to the layout of the book. It is primarily one that discusses military action, action that will live on in methods and ideals for all time. His book also examines warfare on the sea and the struggles in the south which were somewhat removed from northern involvement for the south was primarily a place wherein the people could see both good and bad in allowing Britain to continue ruling them. In the final sections of the work we see how he illustrates the impacts that the American Revolution had in other areas of the world such as the Americas and Britain.
