are a plethora of reasons why the United States has determined that war with Iraq will likely be necessary (The Push For War on Iraq, 2003). These reasons center
on oil, protecting Iraqi interests, the prevention of an economically and politically integrated Arab region that would undermine U.S. economic supremacy, the encouragement of a clash of civilizations that some
believe will set a process in motion that will eventually allow them to establish complete U.S. global hegemony, and political interests (The Push For War on Iraq, 2003).
Furthermore, the United States is the worlds last remaining Super Power, and therefore we are compelled to act in situations which threaten
that position and/or where clear and obvious danger threatens the world. Such is the case with Iraq. Offering to examine
the argument of those who are against the war offers more legitimacy to the "pro" argument: There are those who urge the officials of the United States not to
declare war. They argue that we should allow the inspections time to work (Kelber, 2003). They argue that this war is over oil. They argue that we
should "talk" through our differences. However, these are not viable options. The United States (and the United Nations), has given Iraq years to comply with regulations which quite
clearly they have no intention of complying with. Furthermore, inspectors arent going to get the information they are looking for from people whose lives (and the lives of their
families) are threatened if they say anything (Kelber, 2003). While this war is in part over oil, that too has
