confused about. There has been a great deal of speculation about why the Hindenburg went down in flames. There are those who have argued that it was espionage, that a bomb was placed in the dirigible, that the hydrogen exploded when the dirigible hit a power line, and that static electricity in the air from a storm ignited the hydrogen. The truth, however, is that the Hindenburg went down in flames due to the paint that was used on the outside of the dirigible. It was a paint mixture that actually contained rocket fuel and any small spark could well have set it off. The following paper examines the evidence, looking for similar incidents that further lead to the support of this argument. The Hindenburg First and foremost, it should be noted that no other dirigible has gone down like the Hindenburg, bursting into flames. One of the reasons why this has not happened is because when the Hindenburg went down the focus on dirigibles ended. Those dirigibles that were used prior to the Hindenburg often crashed rather than exploded. They were no longer seen as the future of flying and they were quickly pushed aside in favor of further airplane development. The reasons for this are related to the belief that it was hydrogen that caused the flames and also because the United States and Germany were at a very tense position in relations. They both would rather that the entire Hindenburg disaster be quickly hushed up and as such all further dirigible development ended. \ As mentioned, there were many different theories about why the Hindenburg went down in flames at the time.
