Von Huben 4/2010 Please Introduction Violence is a theme of everyday life, not merely works of fiction. But in fiction it sometimes finds fuller expression than it does as a headline. This paper explores the concept of violence as it applies to Frankensteins monster, and then expands that to three other works at to society as a whole. The paper presents its main argument as the fact that the violence the marks these characters is in large part a reflection of the violence done to them. Discussion Sociologists and psychologists tell us that violent people often have violent histories-not only did they see it, they were victims of it. They grew up with violence as away of life and absorbed the lesson that it is an acceptable way to settle things. In Frankenstein, we dont know what the monsters real childhood was like, but if we consider his childhood as that brief moment between his wakening and his creators repudiation of him, then we must consider that the first interaction he ever had with another being resulted in a violent rejection of him. Its fair to say that "children" who are rejected in such a cruel way never truly resolve their feelings about the issue. Dr. Frankenstein is a perfect example of someone who is so obsessed with a process that he never stops to think about the end product.
