different leadership models; well take a look at some of them and what they entail, and then determine which might be best in an educational setting, particularly one that is
in trouble with regard to funding and labor. One source sees effective school leadership as a paradox, since it has to use both "technical/managerial and symbolic/artistic leadership skills
in order to be successful" (Deal, Peterson and Sergiovanni). The technical/managerial skills paradigm comes from the business world, and is characterized by "clear policies, procedures and achievement ... emphasized
through carefully planning and implementation of well thought-out, rational decision-making" (Deal, Peterson and Sergiovanni). The symbolic/artistic leadership structure is perhaps more characteristic of creative organizations, and "is best practiced
when the leader helps the organization build meaning and commitment through a shared culture shaped by history, values and vision" (Deal, Peterson and Sergiovanni). These authors suggest that the
best leadership combines elements of the two approaches. Other sources give us additional models of leadership, and their weaknesses, as follows. The "Structural Framework suggests a leader is a
social architect" (Leadership models, 2005). This leader focuses on such factors as structure, implementation and adaptation and uses "analysis and design" to achieve his goals (Leadership models, 2005).
If this leadership style is ineffective, however, the leader turn into a "petty tyrant whose focus is on details" (Leadership models, 2005). The "Human Resource Framework suggests a leader who
