The society, economy, science and literature are all considered and explained. ISLAMIC MIDDLE PERIOD The Islamic Middle Period runs from approximately 1200 - 1805. This is the period on which we want to focus, although in order to get an overall picture it is helpful to go back to previous history and see how some of these styles evolved throughout the years. Apart from the integration typically found in the Western world, Islam and other societies not only came to coexist, but the way in which they were ultimately practiced demonstrated how closely the faiths and lifestyles are really linked. One who studies historical religion has a greater understanding of how and why faiths as well as lives were interwoven with regard to Islams expansion into Egypt, Syria and Iran, inasmuch as Islam embodies a good deal of other religious attitudes and practices. SOCIETY Islam not only addressed far-reaching political concerns, but it also appealed to changes in social standing. Islamic belief, as it related to the treatment of women, granted the gender a decidedly intellectual and moral existence within the societal framework; indeed, these were two aspects of such progressiveness that were not applied to most -- if any -- cultures during this period. Women became societys backbone, and are still to this day, in spite of accusations that Muslims continue to oppress the female gender.
