of violence filled with many visions of horrid realities that we know must exist. We are horrified by some of the realities, knowing they are based on just that; realities. While the tale is a fictional one it is based on a woman that Adnan knew a little and respected a lot, which makes the occurrences that much more potent and painful. Adnans book is the story of one woman who was kidnapped, tortured, and killed by Christian militiamen. She was a highly respected individual and almost ranked up there with the Virgin Mary and other female deities. She was considered to be a very beautiful woman and her circumstances were horrifying to anyone who knew about her and the surrounding circumstances. In examining this book, and the issue that revolve around Sitt Marie Rose, we discuss pages 65-76 of Adnans book. In page 65 of Adnans book we are introduced to a mysterious world of religion. Most of what the author says is highly elusive and yet poetic in nature. She seems to be setting the stage for some grand and cruel reality by illustrating the mysterious qualities of religion. And when we are introduced to the four men we are further mystified. She states, "The four young men seated in this classroom are not merely judges. They are the victims of a very long and very old tradition of mans capitulation before Destiny" (Adnan 65). We know within these lines that the mystery we are about to embark on is very old in many ways, as well as perhaps, evil. this is illustrated by her use of the word victim, if nothing else.
