Thus, developing the site is of critical importance. There are numerous techniques in building the site to attract and hold the viewers attention. This is an entirely different medium than the traditional ways of advertising and selling. In some ways, it can be compared to catalog advertising but consider some of the major differences between a print advertisement and one that is on-line. With the printed promo, the consumer has the entire ad right in front of her; she can look from the top to the bottom in a full page newspaper ad or she can flip through the pages of a catalog to scan for what she wants. This is not possible with on-line sales information; the consumer is usually limited to less than a page of text at a time so each page must make a point; each page must make the consumer want to scroll down or move on to the next link. In other words, selling on-line is not simply a matter of translating ones current business to an electronic format. The Internet has graphical, informational and interactive capabilities that offer both benefits and restrictions.
