In order to understand how these diverse elements have influenced the way in which Eastern European countries have developed, especially with regard to their relationship with the Soviet bloc and with Western economies, it is After the defeat of the Austro-Hungarian empire in the first world war, which had been initiated in part by the conflict between Serbian national interests and Austro-Hungarian imperialism, the Balkan states (of which the region referred to as Yugoslavia was a part) were redefined.
