This perception is not necessary true, it is accurate that they could be interpret as warning, but there is a distinct difference between foretelling, which is the prediction of the future, and forthtelling in which the prophet only speaks the words given to him by God, they are not predicting but communicating the will of God, as it relates to the people of the day ()Freedman PG) The Old Testament is full of prophets, much of their purpose is to prepare the Jews for the Messianic coming. This was done in different ways by different prophets and at varying times (Fitzmyer PG). The Messiah was always portrayed as a great and divine man, and the way in which the message was transmitted via the prophets was always one that supported the strong ,monotheistic message of the Old Testament, this was a time where there was a greater tendency towards polytheistic beliefs (Fitzmyer PG). The second message of the prophets was not of the physical attributes that the coming of the Messiah would bring, but the spiritual possibilities, and that the man concern would be in helping people ride themselves of inner evils, not in a physical revolution but an inner spiritual awakening brought about by his coming.
