from economic problems, the threat is that we will allow our own government to take our rights away, and we will not even know its happening, because the mainstream media is not doing its job. It no longer reports the news, it reports what the administration tells it to. This paper discusses the way in which our freedoms are being stolen from us while the media watches silently. Discussion Theres an old saying that when fascism takes over America, it will come wrapped in the flag, and that appears to be happening now. People bristle when critics compare Bush to Hitler, but the similarities are so striking that only a fool would continue to say there are no similarities at all. And one of the most noticeable is that the Nazis took complete control of the media, just as Bush has done. Carole Hoenig describes the flak Elliot D. Cohen and Bruce W. Frasers have gotten for their book, aptly titled The Last Days of Democracy: How Big Media and Power-Hungry Government Are Turning America into a Dictatorship, for making this comparison (Hoenig, 2007). But consider the information Cohen and Fraser present in their book: "In Nazi Germany, there was a systematic program of indoctrination and brainwashing in place. Radio, newspapers, movies, and all other forms of media were carefully monitored by the government to make sure that the German people read, saw, and listened to only what the Nazis wanted the people to read, see, and hear" (Hoenig, 2007).
