Essay / Research Paper Abstract

A 6 page study of men’s and women’s preferences of weight vs cardio training. Women historically have rejected weight training as a favored fitness activity, and it appears that men may prefer weight training over cardiovascular training. To test this apparent affinity student data collectors observed new arrivals at a gym, noting which activity class that men and women chose first. The results support the hypothesis that women choose cardiovascular training over weight training, and that men’s preferences are reversed. Includes 2 tables, 1 chart and an abstract. Among women, 78 (27.6%) chose weights first while 205 (72.4%) chose to complete their cardio routines first. The results support the hypothesis that women choose cardiovascular training over weight training, and that mens preferences are reversed.
