                                                    entitled The Bookseller of Kabul is entrenched in culture and life after the fall of the Taliban. It is raw and honest. Yet, the book is controversial. It has actually  
                                                
                                                    put the wife of the title character Shah Mohammed Rais in danger (Fouche).  	This fact demonstrates just how much of a hold the culture has on the people. They  
                                                
                                                    are afraid of the truth being exposed. It also suggests that the book is rather accurate. Why would anyone be angry if the truth was not exposed? At the same  
                                                
                                                    time, the book does represent a society that is rather backwards by modern standards. Women are not treated as equal to men and in fact, their ways surrounding marriage and  
                                                
                                                    family are also rather controversial. At least, they are unacceptable to the Western world. Finally, the fact that so much is made of the book suggests that it is difficult  
                                                
                                                    to uncover the truth.  Serchuk writes: "The assorted policymakers who have served in Kabul have refrained from spilling their secrets after returning home, while none of the reporters dispatched  
                                                
                                                    there have produced anything resembling a definitive account of the countrys trajectory since 2001" (34). Indeed, getting to the truth is difficult, but a responsible journalist did write the book
