Their various cultures were ultimately destroyed in most cases, like other cultures who were prey to the colonizing forces of the world. In two particular works we see the importance of writing and education in Latin America as it can encourage and support a rising conscience that strengthens a cultural identity. The following paper examines Felipe Guaman Pomas "Letter to a King: A Peruvian Chiefs Account of Life Under the Incas and Under Spanish Rule" and the writings of Simon Bolivar as presented in an edited work by Bierck. Felipe Guaman Poma In Felipe Guaman Pomas "Letter to a King: A Peruvian Chiefs Account of Life Under the Incas and Under Spanish Rule" there is an extensive amount of information that illustrates all aspects of life and government under Inca rule and Spanish rule. In relationship to noting education, the author illustrates, in art as well as the written word, the education of children, and how children were education in life, not in books or in any types of schools. In looking at his drawing, and in his words, we see that the foundation for not educating youth in this culture was strongly established. This would leave no room for the evolution of a strong nation that would survive. Poma notes, "Boys got their education in the fields and were not sent to any school. It was considered inadvisable to train them for a job, since they would only have treated the job as a game until they were grown up.
