been a reality and one that many people are ill-equipped to deal with. With the War in Iraq there are many soldiers returning home with many serious mental problems, because of warfare. Yet the civilians, and those who make the decisions concerning war, do not really comprehend the disastrous nature of war with these soldiers. With that in mind the following paper examines how war affects civilians and those in charge of decisions during war as it relates to the soldier. War: Civilians and Soldiers In addressing the problems that soldiers face many professionals are attempting to help and in doing so perhaps are also learning to understand the trauma of war. For example, there is something called Virtual Iraq wherein soldiers are given stimulus, films as well as smells, that will teach them that their memories cannot harm them: "In choosing which stimuli to introduce, the therapists goal is to evoke the conditions present when specific traumatic events occurred, as accurately as the simulation will allow" (Schaffer, 2007). In relationship to those who make decisions one author "Another said that general officers were so far removed from the fighting, they wound up sheltered from the truth and dont know whats going on" (Kaplan, 2007). Realistically any individual in charge of sending soldiers out must be aware of what is going on. It is imperative that they know what is going on and be aware of what battle is for these soldiers, what they face, and what the ramifications of their decisions actually are.
