States of America must allow their voices to be heard and support their right to assembly in order to uphold the right of free speech. In a sense, it is true that the individual Klan members have a right to hate others, and in fact every citizen has a right to feel as they like, and say what they think, but as a group, the KKK poses a danger to society. Peaceful demonstrations, even if they are in bad taste, are allowed. However, sometimes when people speak their minds, they can create riots. Even the abortion rights proponents have created problems for women entering clinics. Yes, they have a right to approach women who they believe are entering clinics to have abortions. Perhaps if they spoke to a confused woman in a quiet, peaceful manner, they might have reached someone and convinced them not to have an abortion. That is free speech. However, the Right to Life movement had created a form of harassment that not only created an uncomfortable atmosphere, but their actions were dramatic. The activists would shove actual aborted fetuses in front of the faces of these women. They have also gone as far as bombing clinics and murdering doctors. Yes, free speech can be taken too far. Animal rights activists too have been known to damage property and harm human beings in their quest to protect furry creatures. Some of these examples help to show that freedom of speech does not encompass the freedom to do whatever one wants without restraint. In respect to the Klan, the group has been known to murder and set fires on the lawns of the people they hate.
