This intervention can also come in a variety of forms, placing or removing individuals with their consent, or in some cases without or with complete disregard to consent. When it came to the slavery trade there was little, if any consent. This involved the forcible removal of individuals from their native lands, shipping them to foreign lands where they could not speak the language or understand the customs, also many slaves would not survive the journeys. However slavery was not confined to an export business, there was also a slave trade in Africa! The influences of the slave trade on those left behind in the nation state were wide ranging. Political and social impacts could not be avoided. The United States is still suffering the results of a policy that was abolished many years ago and can be seen as an interesting comparison to the nature and impact of the African slave trade. The impact of slavery can be seen as spreading to society as a whole, with the impact of the removal of all these people on their native lands often being disregarded, along with the phenomenon that meant we can see that the slave trade here was very different that that seen in the Americas and the different reactions and interactions that were seen. Slavery in Africa we see as very different from the aspects of slavery commonly associated with the term. It was not the plantation owners and the very brutal and abusive form of slavery often portrayed on common literature but one that more resembled that of a former European age where there was serfdom to lords (Davidson, 1988; 35).
