doctor had stated that he should have a follow-up and that other tests should be conducted in order to ensure that a more severe injury had not occurred. Ben
decided not to follow up on these tests. This suggests that the testing outcomes of Bens medical evaluation following the car accident, which Ben and Cindy reported were
fine, were not complete and therefore did not represent a reliable assessment of Bens condition after the accident. The report by Ben
and Cindy that Bens head hit the rear view mirror is supported by their reports of two nosebleeds corresponding with erratic behaviors and with the bruising, which could be viewed
after close assessment. Physical examination showed that Ben did in fact continue to have a dark bruise under the skin between his eyes and above his nose. This
dark bruising deep under the skin suggests that Bens bruise was not the result of surface blood vessel damage, but from damage deeper in his skull.
Perhaps the most prevalent factor relating to Bens diagnosis is that he noted distinct and episodic olfactory issues. Frontal lobe damage is often associated with olfactory
symptoms, which can include diminished or altered sense of smell (Symptoms of a brain injury, 2008). This type of injury also relates to the previous symptoms identified by Ben
and Cindy, which include loss of complex movements and multi-step task completion (e.g. locating keys, driving the car), loss of flexibility in thinking, mod changes, and changes in social behavior
