The current state of upheaval that is defining reality for the Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire) has left the country in complete chaos and at a standstill in the view of the global community. The problems faced are extreme: civil war that has escalated to include the neighboring countries, internal health concerns and the disintegration of the infrastructure. All of these factors are significant to the collapse of the political and economic structure of past regimes and the chaos of the current situation. The future of the country is very questionable and will be based on the resolution of the current conflict. The resources of the area are such that whoever gains control has the potential to develop a thriving economic base. This 16 page paper examines the recent conflicts, the problems that are plaguing the country and takes a look at a future scenario. Bibliography lists 10 sources.
