p. 336). There are similarities between all of the various models of intervention, i.e., the "problem-solving model, crisis intervention, time-limited intervention and task-centered casework" (Abbott, 1995, p. 202). Naturally,
there are also differences between these models. The following examination of literature briefly investigates the task-centered and crisis interventions and then contrasts them. Task-centered Intervention Task-centered social work is
defined as a "time-limited format," which generally encompasses between six and twelve sessions over a two to three month period, which is designed to "confront a specific problem or task
identified by the client" (Abbott, 1995, p. 202). This approach was evolved as a response to research that indicated that clients receiving brief time-limited counseling demonstrated a comparable and long-lasting
benefit that was similar to the benefits derived from long-term treatment approaches (Abbott, 1995). Task-centered treatment focuses on analyzing the clients system, which includes analysis of obstacles that impair
problem resolution, as well as identification of the resources that are available to the client that can be used to facilitate problem reduction and/or resolution (Abbott, 1995, p. 202). The
format of this approach aids clients in exploring the nature of a problem, arriving at a desired goal, establishing a contract, identifying the tasks required to reach the contract goal
