When writing a personal essay on why the student is pursuing an MBA, the student should be quite specific about the type of MBA degree that is his/her goal and objectives that the student envisions that this degree will help him/her achieve. Many MBA students are quite straightforward about their motives in pursuing an MBA, as they see it as the "quickest path to the senior levels of management" (Gupta, Saunders and Smith, 2007, p. 307). According to some statistics, MBA graduates can anticipate seeing their salaries increase by roughly 18percnet upon graduation and 53 percent within the next 3 to 5 years (Gupta, Saunders and Smith, 2007). According to a survey of MBA accredited schools, which was conducted by the Association to Advanced Collegiate Schools of Business, an MBA education significantly impacts a graduates "employment, income, and job promotions in the short and long terms" (Gupta, Saunders and Smith, 2007, p. 307). Business literature, in general, supports the idea that the "competition advantage of an MBA is that it provides manager with a holistic perspective of management and business" and, furthermore, that an MBA education "equips them to assist their organizations o delivery superior business results by immersing them in the enabler and cutting-edge disciplines" (Gupta, Saunders and Smith, 2007, p. 307).
