like New York City, are used in other ways in addition to the purpose for which it was designed. Union Square in New York City was originally designed
as a place to exhibit architectural prowess and to provide a small inner city park for the workers to enjoy during the workday. Located in the neighborhood of 4th and
Broadway, between fourteenth and seventeenth streets, Union Square has had a long and illustrious history of being used for more than a strolling point for inner city workers. For example,
many demonstrators have used the park as a rallying point. It is one of the oldest parks in the city, having been developed in the late eighteen hundreds. It has
long served as an informal podium for anyone who cares to take center stage. Most recently it became a gathering place for mourners after the World Trace Center bombings.
Part of the appeal is that it is centrally located for most of the people who work inside the city. Access is easy and most people
find the walk short from the parking. Food is available from anything resembling a deli to a street vendor selling hot dogs, New York Style. The wide, low, ledges around
the fountains provide ample seating for people to sit and listen to someones arguments, rallying call, or simply to enjoy a visit with ones friends. This reinterpretation of
an inner city park can be thought to be a positive usage of the area(Alexander 1979). It has met and exceeded its possibilities it has to be thought in that
