a psychological disorder, it is also a disorder that is apparently quite prevalent in our society. With that in mind the following paper reviews and critiques three different research articles/studies as they address possibilities concerning obsessive compulsive disorder. Summary and Critique of the Articles The first article to be summarized and critiqued is "Magnetic Stimulation in Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder: A Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Study" by Alonso et al. this is a brief report, compared to the other two to be discussed, and first indicates that the study was attempting to send out repetitive magnetic impulses to the right prefrontal cortex of the brain in hopes that it may yield positive results concerning obsessive compulsive behavior. They conclude that "Low-frequency rTMS of the right prefrontal cortex failed to produce significant improvement of OCD and was not significantly different from sham treatment" (Alonso et al.). However, the authors do note that a previous study did indicate beneficial results, thus indicating there may be possibilities for OCD sufferers in this treatment: "Differences induced by rTMS in the first hours...were the main findings of Greenberg et al." (Alonso et al.). The second research article is "Effects of Psilocybin in Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder" by Moreno, Delgado and Gelenberg. This article founds its research possibilities and validity on the fact that, "Psilocybin, LSD, and mescaline are extremely potent agonists at 5-HT2A and 5-HT2C receptors and their binding potency ...
