a frequent component of that violence. Consequently, institutions of all types and structures have well-defined rules that prohibit weapons on their premises. Our nations colleges are no exception.
There is simply no reason for weapons to be a part of the educational environment. While it must be pointed out that
there is a place and a time for knives, guns, bows, and other types of devices; weapons are distinct from these types of devices. Knives, guns, and bows are
tools. They become weapons when they are used in a manner that is intended to inflict harm on another human being.
This distinction, of course, is not intended to be construed to mean that these types of tools should be allowed on campuses as long as they are not viewed
as weapons! There is a very obvious reason for this qualification. The intent of a college campus is educational so unless these types of "tools" are the focus
of that education they should be banned from that environment. College students are not only too immature to handle the responsibilities
that would be necessitated with the presence of these "tools" in this environment, our contemporary world has established a mindset where such "tools" would be too likely to turn into
weapons at the blink of an eye. As the recent outbreak of school shootings around the nation attests, the result would be disastrous.
