MOTIVATION FOR SUCH A MUSEUM The motivation behind creating such a museum comes from the desire to bring to light the many tremendous accomplishments women have made in the artistic world. Female contribution is so great, yet recognition has been overshadowed by the massive attention offered to their male counterparts. If fortunate, women are allowed to share space in a museum that is generally chock-full of work by male artists, with the display being only sparsely peppered with womens artistry. "If we can heighten the awareness of great achievement by women artists so they will be included in major museums, and heighten the awareness of the inequities so theyll be corrected, thats a step in the right direction" (Shapiro, 1987, p. 113). II. SUPPORTIVE AUDIENCE OR CONSTITUENCY One can imagine that the primary audience or constituency will likely be female supporters. Indeed, there will also be a significant number of men who will endorse the womens art museum; however, for the most part, it can be argued that female backing will be most prevalent.
