be an accepted truth that the healthcare system in the United States is inherently flawed, in good measure due to the fact that both liberal and conservative positions are mired
in political ideology. The political system of the United States is fundamentally responsible for the development of policy and no area feels the politicized nature of policy-making more than healthcare.
As a result, the general public has heard a broad range of opinions, both pro and con, regarding comprehensive healthcare and gone on to develop their own attitudes based on
their personal experiences and those of their friends and family. However, what is all too often forgotten in the numerous aspects of the healthcare debate is the simple
and undeniable fact that people are still going to die, regardless of how extensive the healthcare they receive may be. Even Washington politicians understand that death cannot be avoided. As
a result, the past twenty years have also shown a greater understanding of the many concerns associated with death and dying in America, not the least of which is hospice
care. Even funding sources of the magnitude of Medicare and private insurers have come to understand that end-of-life care is an important component of healthcare and deserves to receive compensatory
