If the country of origin is the UK this may appear academic, but in exporting and marketing abroad this may then be undertaken to a range of EU countries with the need to only consider one additional currency. In addition to the conditions single market, the advent of the internet has also been a tool that has reduced many barrier to trading, especially for small to medium sized companies. For some sectors the transition to marketing on the internet has been difficult, traditional goods that are sold in shops, such as toys, although appearing to hold promise, this has been hard to realise, as the collapse of UK branch of e-Toys demonstrated. Perceptions of potential customers need to change, and start up companies, or small to medium sized companies lack the large amount of backing that is required for this transition to take place and lead a company into profit. Even Amazon has taken many years to become profitable. However, for higher tech products, such as computers it may be argued that the potential market may be more attractive. Simply by the nature of the individuals that access the internet and are attracted to e commerce having a large cross over. For a computer company seeking to compete with larger companies this may be an attractive feature.
