to make Alberta a better place to live. One way to answer this question is to answer what makes a particular
location an ideal quality of life location for businesses. The answers are pretty basic (other than a friendly tax abatement structure) and they include a solid infrastructure, cultural and arts
nearby, a trained workforce that isnt too expensive to hire and a "can do" business community. To an extent, this was found
in Calgary, Alta., during the 1988 Olympics -- any type of Olympic endeavor, in fact, takes a yeomans effort between public and private sectors, and this one involved not only
the city of Calgary, but also provincial assistance as well as huge input from the private sector to get the venues built (particularly the Saddledome, which is now the home
of the Calgary Flames hockey team). Another way to determine how Alberta in general and Calgary in particular can be a better
place to live is to examine the literature, and the student can do this as well. Much of the literature these days is fairly positive about the area -- so
we researched the files back to 1996 and found the article "Cerebral Stampede," which was written by Andrew Nikiforuk for the publication Canadian Business.
This is a good article because while it compliments Calgary for being poised to lead Canada in terms of computer capacity and technological development, it also warns of
