In addition, the individual doesnt have to look like they dont know how to dance. The line dance itself specifies the steps to be performed. The challenge for the dancer on the dance floor is to reach the highest level of syncopation with the other dancers as possible. Although the popularity of line dancing is declining in America, it has opened up the "professional" performance field beyond that of ballet, tap and other "traditional" dances. Audiences around the world are now enjoying the professional performance of Riverdance, an Celtic-dance musical and dance company touring the world. For a time, until the Republicans put their negative stamp on it, the world joined in a single salsy dance called the Macarena--the first global dance. The purpose of the line dance is to provide not only a forum for unpartnered people to dance, it gives anyone who wants to dance, the chance to just get up and dance whenever they feel like it. In addition, individuals get the opportunity to receive free dance instruction, simply either by following the movements of the group in "real time," or signing up for dance classes on the side. Many bars made learning easy by offering early dance classes prior to regular late-night festivities.
