Someone takes out another human being and so the state takes the life of the human being who committed the original murderous act. A builder who lived in the day of this code, that was taken to an extreme, would have to abide the following logic: "Perhaps the clearest example of the sacrifice of individual rights on the altar of social order is the provision that would spell death for the builders son if a new house collapsed and killed the owners son" ("Women," 2005). Obviously, this eye for an eye law is extreme and one can imagine that a laborer in the day would be living under duress. Other laws are on the books for different types of occupations that might fall under this category. For example, a gardener who gardens for an owner has to pay the owner "two-thirds of the produce" that is grown in the garden he tends (Kowalski, 2004). This does appear to be quite generous. In todays day and age, the owner would get the profit for the garden, or farm profits, and the laborer would only receive a pittance. Today, it comes in the form of minimum wage. Then, the workers would receive their pay in the form of what they reaped. Whether one is a builder or a gardener, he will also have a personal life.
