Be specific in the type of impact and how it is measured. 1. 1991-92: EN During the span of years 1991 to 1992, the city of Phoenix, Arizona experienced a drier than average total annual rainfall with just 3 inches of precipitation measured (United States Geological Survey, 2011). As the other data collected below will indicate, this is a typical occurrence during years in which the El Nino weather pattern manifests. Drier than average conditions in the American southwest results in an underwhelming monsoon (the source of much of the regions annual rainfall in a typical year). 2. 1994-95: EN From 1994 to 1995, the El Nino weather pattern persisted in Phoenix, Arizona, resulting in a lighter than average rainfall for the year, coming in at just 4 inches of precipitation (United States Geological Survey, 2011). The fact that the rainfall is higher in this year may well be attributable to the fact that the El Nino pattern was beginning to shift back towards the La Nina pattern, which would manifest in the following year. 3. 1995-96: LN In 1995 and 1996, the La Nina weather pattern emerged as a matter of course in its natural cycle with El Nino. The result is that the American southwest began to experience greater than average precipitation on the whole.
