but they also have to carefully balance their monitoring of such personal use to ensure that privacy rights are not infringed upon. This
paragraph helps the student respond to the first discussion point listed in the brief. Having been notified by the IT department that one of the employees in my department is
spending some three hours a day using accessing the internet for personal reasons, I am compelled to respond to the issue in some way. My first reaction would be to
peruse the organizations information systems use policy in order to determine whether or not it contains sufficient wording to establish this misuse as being prohibited. It is important that such
documents exist, because they help to frame any issue like this in more objective and less emotional terms. For instance, if I approached the employee complaining about this issue when
it were not prohibited as a matter of policy, he or she might feel as if I were personally singling them out, which is not conducive to a desirable outcome.
With such a policy in place, the issue is less personal. If no properly worded policy existed, I would undertake the process of having one developed. That being said, I
would be inclined to issue a warning to the individual about the excessive use of company internet access for personal reasons. I would then monitor the frequency of usage in
