direct and does provide enough information to discern what the writer wants exactly, it jumps from one topic to the next, and then back to the original point. It is
disorganized. Also, while the writer assumes that the recipient understands what is to be done, and who the people mentioned are exactly, a memorandum is supposed to serve as a
company document. In order to keep the memo filed and understood by other readers in the future, it should contain more detailed information about what is to be done and
what the issues are. People who are mentioned should be identified by title and department, or at least by first and last names. However, while the memo is disorganized and
not informative enough, it does make a nice appearance. The memo to all employees regarding a recycling program begins in a persuasive manner. By providing relevant statistics, the reader
begins to think that perhaps the issue is important. At the same time, the information is a bit ambiguous and does not relate personally to the reader. The writer
could have taken a more personal approach. It quickly moves to a directive, or what is being done, based on the general information provided. This is a good transition,
but again, it is too impersonal to be effective. It does provide succinct instructions at the close of the letter and these are very clear. Finally, while the memorandum does
convey good information, the appearance is rather sloppy and it reads more like a computer data output than a clean memorandum. The memo to Howard Johnson, along with other memos
submitted with this particular one, unlike the others, are quite mechanized and detailed. They provide instruction but lack warmth and clarity. A student writing a sample memorandum that will
