What made many of his stories mesmerizing was the manner in which they spoke of real life and real experiences. As such it comes as no surprise to note that he influenced many a writer during and after his time. Two individuals whose works, and lives, are reflective of Hemingway are Raymond Carver and J.D. Salinger. In the following paper we examine how the work of Hemingway obviously influenced the works of Raymond Carver and J.D. Salinger. Hemingway, Carver, and Salinger As mentioned, Hemingway is considered to be one of the greatest literary writers of the 20th century. He was an influence on many writers "By his great short stories, novels, and how he plugged his stories into his own personal life. He used expressions in his stories with the war and his personal life" (Anonymous Brainstorm Page IV-A, 2002; iv-a.htm). He presented the reader with very strong opinions and as such "influenced other writers to write about personal experiences and put the thought into short stories and novels. Also as mentioned, his stories were not always, if ever, truly happy stories, nor were they stories that left us with any cohesive answer. In essence, his work was very open ended.
