and the history, extensively and provided several works, as well as lectures, on the man who was Washington. In all honesty it seems as though he may well rank as "the" most knowledgeable. Bearing that in mind we examine one of his works, "George Washington and the American Military Tradition," which is a book that discusses some of the foundations of our countrys military traditions. George Washington and the American Military Tradition Compared with most history books, Higginbothams book is not overly divided into chapter upon chapter upon chapter, all possessing numerous divisions that tend to get lost in translation. His book is relatively simplistic in its approach, truly only offering us a few refined sections. These are The Colonial Tradition, Tradition in Transition, The Revolutionary Tradition, and George Washington and George Marshall. In these sections he provides us with relatively simplistic information that details some of the traditions while providing us with an excellent overview of the man who was George Washington. Interestingly enough, it seems that this particular work did not start out to become a book. In fact, "George Washington and the American Military Tradition" was "originally delivered as scholarly lectures" (Haley). This provides us with a somewhat interesting spin on the work as it was developed to address people face-to-face and not only through written material. This puts a somewhat personal touch to his work that often enables the reader to feel as though someone is sharing the information with them, rather than merely putting the words down without any personal commitment. We note that during the early colonial times there was a sense of chaos when considering the militia of the day.
