there are a large number of male fashion stores opening. This can also be explained; according to the stereo of women purchasing mens clothes. Market research has indicated that many women do purchase clothes for men, often for practical reasons, but it is a trend that exists (Kotler and Keller, 2008). However, observation will indicate that many of the male fashion stores are frequented by men, so whatever stereotypes exist men are buying fashion and spending their own money. In addition to this the mens market for fashion is increasing at a faster rate that that of womens, in 2007 there was a 1.1% increase in market size for womens fashion, whereas there was a 4.4% increase in the means fashion market. Despite this the mens apparel market remains smaller than the female apparel market at $57.2 billion compared to $103.1 billion (Smith, 2008). There do appear to be differences, but these figures do not tell us if there are any significant differences on the amount that men and women spend on fashion for themselves when they go out shopping, however it would indicate a higher spend to support the stereotype due to the larger market. The questions is whether or not there are differences and the difference patterns seen in the market, with men buying clothes for men is associated with convenience. One way of assessing this is to assess the way that convenient fashion purchases are made; looking at the online market for fashion which embodies the concepts of ease and convenience. In order to assess this use of online fashion purchasing can be examined. The hypothesis is that H1 Significantly different amounts will be spent by men and women when level of expenditure for online fashion for the Fall of 2007 is examined. ...
