religion. Certain scripture regularly challenged women to disprove that they were inferior-to disagree was heresy. When religion did not work alone, scientific theory was included as a factor in the equation that supported the ideal that women are inferior. To say that women have had to fight for their existence within a patriarchal world would be a gross understatement and one that would also be staunchly supported by the likes of female-dominated religions. Indeed, the road to female freedom and self-expression has been paved with patriarchal intolerance and characteristic skepticism so much so that women have been forced to prove their worthiness within the stringent boundaries of a male-dominated existence. Clearly, this perpetual assertion speaks volumes about the inherent fortitude that comprises the female spirit. Female-dominated religions have existed longer than many people even realize; however, they are neither prevalent nor encouraged in societies where patriarchal control is still the mainstay. The handful of those that are female dominated refer to those where "women are the majority of participants and leaders, there is no higher level male authority that ultimately directs those religions, and that these religions focus on women as ritual actors" (Sered 12). One of the least considered female-dominated religions is Wicca, a practice that imparts spirituality, benevolence and earthly powers as a means by which to enhance the lives of its followers.
