Others argue that without such infringements on our freedoms the people cannot be safe against terrorists. As would be expected this has clearly been change which involves law enforcement agencies across the nation. And, with the growing power of homeland security the law enforcement agencies may well find themselves in positions that ultimately infringe on the constitutional rights of the people. The following paper examines the conditions today and examines if and how law enforcement is in an ethical dilemma concerning homeland security and the constitutional rights of the people they serve and protect. Ethics Concerning Homeland Security and Law Enforcement The student requesting this paper indicates that people, the citizens of the nation, often support law enforcement organizations with the understanding that they will follow the constitutional laws of the nation. The people expect the law enforcement individuals to adhere to the constitutional freedoms and protect the people, while also ensuring that they do not infringe on the freedoms of the people. But, with the emergence of homeland security and especially the Patriot Act, it may well be that the law enforcement agencies of the nation are infringing on the civil rights of the individual, although also following federal regulations.
