As we can see, his stories are perhaps universal to some extent, and stories which also seem to follow similar themes. In the following paper we examine one of his short stories, "Deshoras," and examine how it is clearly a story that illustrates a sense of obsessions and a search for identity, among other common themes found within Cortazars works. Deshoras Perhaps the most prominent theme in this particular story is searching for ones identity. "In "Deshoras" a mans evocation of his childhood is motivated by his desire to reunite with a beloved mother figure from the past. The childhood events are framed by the present time of the adult as he puts his memories down in writing and reflects upon his purpose for transcribing these recollections" (Schmidt-Cruz schmidt.html). We watch as the story takes us back to the past, as the young man obsesses over his mother and his search for identity. And, "Although the narrator begins by denying any motivation behind his memories: Yo no ten?a ninguna raz?n especial para acordarme de todo eso (470),[8] he soon admits that it is the image of Sara, his playmate Doros older sister, that draws him to the task.
