On the surface, it actually seems as though Apple and Beane might agree with Gutmann, pointing out that vouchers and choice plans provide families with
the way to flee public school systems that might not be doing the best by their children. This doesnt necessarily lead to democratic schools, as much as leads to an
illusion of democratic choice by parents of children who are fed up and frustrated with the local school system. Furthermore, the authors
point out, its assumed, by many, that the "democratic way of life" is the purview of adults, rather than youngsters. Others believe that democratic ways of life and public schools
